  18.                     PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  19.  
  20. Mass User Management (MUM) facilitates the management of four
  21. critical areas system managers frequently encounter.  These include
  22. adding, deleting, updating and monitoring user accounts.  
  23.  
  24. You must be a SUPERVISOR equivalent for MUM to function properly.
  25. Certain parts of the bindery can only be accessed by a SUPERVISOR
  26. equivalent.

  28. OVERVIEW:
  29.  
  30. Mass User Management will allow system managers to do the
  31. following:
  32.  
  33.      1)   Add large numbers of users from lists generated by a
  34. database, spreadsheet or word processing program.  Mass User
  35. Management will verify names of existing users and add those who do
  36. not have accounts.
  37.      2)   Delete users from a text file listing usernames, a
  38. certain group, disabled accounts and expired accounts.
  39.      3)   Change user restrictions for all users, users in a
  40. certain group, users with expirations dates older than a specified
  41. date, users with login dates older than a specified date and users
  42. in a text file.
  43.      4)   Generate lists of user restrictions for all users, users
  44. in a certain group, users with expirations dates older than a
  45. specified date, users with login dates older than a specified date
  46. and users in a text file.

  48. ADVANTAGES OF MASS USER MANAGEMENT:
  49.  
  50. Mass User Management is an essential tool for all managers required
  51. to manage large numbers of users.  It adds and deletes users
  52. dynamically and then allows managers to modify restrictions once
  53. the users are created.  It also allows managers to create lists of
  54. users and their restrictions.
  55.  
  56.      1)   MUM drastically saves time for the system manager who is
  57. constantly adding new users or the system manager who needs to add
  58. large numbers of users at one time. 
  59.  
  60.      2)   MUM adds and deletes users dynamically.  It allows
  61. managers to define a template for each user group, and then add
  62. users according to a set of templates without separating users into
  63. different lists or having to add each user individually.

  65.         MUM vs. UserDef
  66.         ---------------
  67.           - Novell's utility UserDef allows system managers to
  68. define different templates for different groups of users, but
  69. requires that managers select a current template and then add users
  70. one-by-one.  
  71.           - MUM allows system managers to define different
  72. templates for different departments and then add any number of
  73. users from any of the defined departments all at once.

  75.         MUM vs. MakeUser
  76.         ----------------
  77.           -  Novell's utility MakeUser allows system managers to
  78. add larger numbers of users at one time but managers loose the
  79. advantage of having templates defined for different groups.  The
  80. files for MakeUser need to be specially prepared for MakeUser and
  81. are not really reusable.  Users need to be grouped together and the
  82. restrictions file layout is not cohesive to large numbers of users.

  84.      3)   MUM will delete all disabled accounts or accounts that
  85. have not logged in for a certain period of time.  It can delete
  86. all users in a certain server group or delete all users listed in
  87. a text file.

  89.      4)   MUM allows system managers to modify user restrictions in
  90. bulk after they are added.
  91.  
  92.      5)   MUM allows managers to create lists of users and their
  93. restrictions.  These lists can be read back into spreadsheet or
  94. database programs.

  96.      6)   MUM was written to allow system managers to add and
  97. delete users from a batch file.  This can be performed by calling 
  98. MUM's child process, MassMode.
  99.  
  100. Overall, no program on the market offers the features to system
  101. managers that Mass User Management does.  Some programs limit the
  102. number of users that can be managed, but MUM is not limited by such
  103. restrictions.  Mass User Management is a critical tool for managers
  104. to stay in control of their networks.
